Q & A’s

How often should I come in for brow shaping?

Every 4-6 weeks. Everyone has different hair growth cycles. If you notice your hair growing in slowly, I would recommend waiting the 6 weeks. If your hair is growing in quickly, 4 weeks is best. Once all hairs in the area have grown in, we wax the unwanted hairs to bring everything to the same hair growth pattern.

How can I be confident that not too much hair will be waxed away?

First things first, brow mapping! Before any waxing or any hair removal takes place, I map out your brows. When mapping out your eyebrows, I use measuring tools, your bone structure and points on your face to help create your perfect brow shape. An outline is drawn with wax pencil to show exactly where I’d be waxing, and also showing you where, and how much hair we are keeping. With your approval, I only wax the areas outside that shape. My goal is to make you feel very confident before the waxing takes place.

Who can’t get waxed?

You cannot be waxed if you are using skin care products that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) of any kind. You can also not be waxed if you are using facial products with Retin-A, Retinoids, or if you’re on on acne medication such as Accutane. All these products and treatments can cause the skin to lift while waxing. Another cause is aggressive exfoliation such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels.

I will still be able to do the brow shaping appointment, but we will be tweezing instead of waxing.

Botox and fillers are not to be done 2 weeks prior to waxing or tweezing appointment.

Will the tinting work on my skin or just the hair? Does tint work on gray hairs?

Tinting generally only tints the brow hair, however we are able to leave the tint on longer to tint the underlying skin as well. Note: tint on the skin generally only lasts 1-3 days post-appointment.

The tint will unfortunately not cover white hairs or course grey hairs, but it should be noted that often grey hair is more resistant to tinting than other hair types.

What is the difference between tint and henna?

Tinting lasts anywhere from 2-4 weeks on the brow hairs and 1-3 days on the skin (depending on how long the tint is left on for). I have 5 shades of tint to help customize for the perfect the shade for you. Tinting is a more natural change to the brow then henna.

Brow Henna lasts on the hairs for 4-6 weeks and on the skin for 1-2 weeks. Henna can give you “filled in” brow look. If you use a pencil to filling in your brows every day, OR if you’re wanting to see what micropigmentation would look like, henna gives a similar effect. I also have 10 different shades of henna to customize to your desired shade.

The longevity of both tinting and henna depend on lifestyle, skin type and skincare products.

Should I get waxing done before or after my spray tan?

Start with your waxing treatment – and you’ll find that the act of waxing also exfoliates your skin to remove any dead skin cells, to leave it primed for a flawless spray tan application.

There should be at least three days between appointments. After waxing, your pores remain open for up to eight hours, so if you spray tan on the same day, the tanning solution will ‘pool’ in the open pores, leaving dark spots across your skin – not the look you’re after!

What are the benefits of brow tinting and how long does it last?

If you’re looking for a easy way to enhance your natural brow by giving them a more bold look, brow tinting gives definition and evens out color of brow hairs for 2-4 weeks. The length of time your tinting lasts depending on lifestyle, skincare products and skin type. The more often you’re washing your face, and scrubbing your brows, the faster it can fade. Try not to get the brows wet for 24 hours after your tinting appointment, as this will help extend the longevity.

Why do some people get little bumps after waxing even if no oil products are used?

When hair is forcefully removed, like with waxing, it causes stress to the surrounding skin. Many people develop mild bumps and inflammation afterward. Although this usually clears up in a few days, treatment can speed healing and prevent future bumps.

Inflammation can also be due to folliculitis — a bumpy, pimple-like rash — after hair removal. Inflammation typically goes away on its own without treatment. If you have white or fluid-bumps that last more than a few days, your folliculitis may be the result of a mild infection of the hair follicles that have been left open to bacteria on the skin surface due to hair removal. In some cases, there is no infection of the hair follicles and folliculitis develops from irritation alone.

Using a mixture of baking soda and warm water to create a paste and applying it to the infected area is known to reduce irritation.

Who can’t get tint or henna?

For Brow Henna, a patch test would be to ensure you do not have a sensitivity or allergy to an active ingredient in Brow Henna called PPD. However, an extremely low percent of PPD is present in the brands of Brow Henna and Brow Tint used.

Clients with spray tans are advised to wait until all sign of spray tan has faded to ensure the best results with Henna or Tinting. Also, avoiding spray tans post procedure will help the longevity of your brows.

Do you have different shades of tint?

I have several different colors that can be mixed to create your perfect shade. Brow tint can also be left on for a longer period of time, or a shorter period of time depending on the look you desire. The longer we leave the tint on, the darker it will tint the brow hairs in that shade, and also on the underlying skin.

How do you know how long to leave the tint on for?

When you come in for your first tinting appointment here, I like to talk in depth with you on your desired brow look before we start anything. I let you know which shade I’ve chosen for you, and explain why this specific tint. I always start off slow by leaving the tint on for 1 minute, to see how your hairs react to the tint. We take a look at the brows together and keep adding 1 minute on to processing time until you’re happy with the shade. After your appointment, I write down exactly what shade, how long we left the brow tint on, and what areas I had to re apply too (if needed). My goal is to get the perfect shade for you every time!

How do I treat little bumps on my brow area after waxing?

A cool compress or shower after waxing may help reduce post-wax irritation. Using an over-the-counter cortisone cream on the treatment area for a day or two might also reduce inflammation and any itching that may present itself. It's best to avoid swimming in water or using a hot tub, steam room or sauna within 24 to 48 hours after body or bikini waxing.

Another great tip is to use baking soda and warm water to make a paste and gently exfoliate the area twice a day. You should also use a scent-free moisturizing lotion.

Folliculitis typically does not require topical or oral antibiotics and will go away on its own. Keep the area clean and avoid sharing towels or clothing with others until the infection clears. See your doctor if you develop large or growing bumps, especially if you experience a fever, the redness appears to be spreading or you experience other symptoms.
